On February 24, the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP) held the Water Innovation Day -Digital and circular solutions-, an event aimed at promoting technology transfer of relevant technological innovations and R&D projects for the sustainable use of water. The in-person event, held at the World Trade Center in Barcelona, brought together almost 200 professionals from the water sector. In this event, companies, universities and research centres had the chance to showcase their innovative digital solutions as well as R&D and digital transformation projects.
The event featured an elevator pitches session to disseminate R&D projects. Among many other projects, the KTMS project was presented by Raúl Alonso, CEO of Inloc Robotics. KTMS is an innovative project that aims at reducing the energy consumption in ships through the use of sensor technology and advanced digitization. The project is led by the French SME Beyond the Sea and Inloc Robotics, and it received EU funding through the H2020 INNOSUP project GALATEA, focused on blue economy, where the CWP also participates as partner.
The event ended with the awards ceremony for the three best R&D projects in the water sector this year. Among the 9 R&D projects presented during the event, the first finalist was the Agualearn project led by CWP, Amphos21, HYDS and Aigües del Prat and financed by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, which seeks to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as an early warning tool to predict the presence of pollutants in water. The Vivaldi project was the second finalist presented by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, that has received funding by the EU’s H2020 call, and aims at developing an innovative biotechnological solution, sustainable and cost-effective way to convert waste gas emissions from bio-based industries into CO2-based chemicals. Finally, the winner for the best R&D project was KTMS presented by the partner Inloc Robotics.
